Welcome to Hampton Hill

Hampton Hill, which was originally referred to as new Hampton, is located in the London borough of Richmond upon Thames and is found to the west of Twickenham. Other boundaries of Hampton Hill include Fulwell and the golf course at Twickenham, Bushy Park and Longford River. Notable attractions include Bushy Park, the monument at the south-eastern edge of General Roy's Survey Base and the boundary walls of Bushy Park.

Like many parts of London during the Second World War, Hampton Hill had to endure a number of bombings during the Blitz. The first notable incident during this time came in November of 1940 when Wellington bomber crashed on 63 Park Road. The following evening, five people lost their life when a landmine was dropped from a Luftwaffe. While there were many other attacks, there were no further casualties in the area due to bombings until June 1944 when someone died when a doodlebug exploded close to Longford Close.

While Hampton Hill is mainly filled by a residential area, the High Street remains a thriving part of the local community. A traditional bakery, which is over 75 years old, is the heart of the High Street but there are pubs, cafes, restaurants and shops providing entertainment and sustenance for the local community. Every Christmas, there is a parade on the High Street which sees the stores closing down to allow a procession to take place. This is a well-attended event every year and it forms part of the festive activities for many local residents and people who come from afar to enjoy the celebrations. The Christmas Lighting Up parade has been in place for over 40 years and in recent times, there has been a movement to initiate a summer festival which would match the winter festival in importance and pageantry.

Notable educational options in Hampton Hill include the Hampton Hill Junior School and the junior school of the Lady Elanor Holles School, with the senior department located in nearby Hampton. There are places of worship for those of the C of E faith, the United Reformed Church, the Spiritualist Church and those of the Roman Catholic faith. When it comes to fitness, there are a number of sporting clubs and venues available in Hampton Hill. The Hampton Hill Cricket Club is a popular choice for many people while there are an abundance of golf courses including Fulwell Golf Course, Strawberry Hill golf course and Twickenham golf course.

As well as the local Fulwell Railway Station, connecting the area to the heart of London, there are additional train stations in Hampton and at Teddington. Hampton Hill itself is served by three main bus routes, travelling out to far beyond the local area, including Heathrow. For the car driver, the area remains well connected by the nearby A316 with its routes in and out of London at the start of M3 motorway leading to the M25 and Hampshire.

There are many stylish and attractive buildings and locations in the local area. In addition to a number of traditional buildings, Hampton Hill has benefited from a number of modern developments of apartments. Families are attracted to the sense of community Hampton Hill has to offer, along with its array of family houses on its many quiet tree lined residential roads.
