Welcome to Strawberry Hill

Strawberry Hill is an affluent area of the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames in Twickenham on the banks of the River Thames, situated just 10.4 miles of the centre of London. St Mary's University, Twickenham, the country's oldest Roman Catholic University, is situated on Waldegrave Road. Its sports grounds were used as a training site for the 2012 Olympics as well as a visit by the Pope on his visit to England.

The nineteenth-century development is named after "Strawberry Hill", the fanciful Gothic Revival villa designed by author Horace Walpole between 1749 and 1776. It began as a small 17th century house "little more than a cottage", with only 5 acres of land and ended up as a "little Gothic castle" in 46 acres. The original owner had named the house "Chopped Straw Hall", but Walpole wanted it to be called something more distinctive and after finding an old lease that described his land as "Strawberry Hill Shot", he adopted this name. After a £9 million, two year restoration, Strawberry Hill House re-opened to the public in October 2010.

Strawberry Hill boasts a small village community with its own railway station offering routes in to Waterloo mainline Station and on the Kingston loop for routes out towards Surrey. The motorist is convimniently served by the nearby A316 with its routes in to the West end of London and out to the M3 and M25 for journeys further afield.

The area boasts larger style properties and more recently converted larger properties in to modern accommodation. These range from period Victoria properties to more modernistic style properties. The area is centred around its small village which is at the heart of the areas charm.
