Welcome to Twickenham

Twickenham is a pretty family orientated town occupying a large bend on the River Thames in South West of London between Richmond Bridge and Strawberry Hill. Located just 10 miles from the heart of London, it was incorporated as the Municipal Borough of Twickenham in 1926 but since 1965, it has been recognised as being part of the Greater London borough, now in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. Twickenham is a world famous name, which is down to the rugby stadium that is found within the area. This is deemed to be the home of English rugby, with the Rugby Football Union being located here as well, but it is the stadium that deserves the main level of focus. It is considered to be the largest stadium in the world that is primarily used for rugby matches but Twickenham has also developed a reputation for hosting music events and concerts throughout the year. But Twickenham is more than rugby and for the generation that grew up in London during the Sixties, it evokes fond memories of watching the likes of the Who, the Yardbirds or the Rolling Stones playing on Eel Pie Island, the charmingly ramshackle Thameside island tucked away behind Twickenham's shopping centre.

There is a considerable range of options for children of all ages with many schools in the wider area being regarded as "good" and "outstanding" by Ofsted which makes Twickenham an obvious destination for young families. There is a public college in Twickenham but it is the surrounding areas that provide the educational facilities for residents of Twickenham.

Twickenham Railway Station, which provides a 26 minute journey time to London Waterloo, is found in the local area as are Fulwell, Strawberry Hill and St Margaret's Railway Station. There are also many local stations such as Whitton, Teddington, Richmond, Hampton Wick and Hampton. All of these additional stations, with the exception of Richmond, are found in the former Borough of Twickenham. St Margaret's is classed as a Zone 4 station while the other stations are classed as Zone 5 areas. Twickenham is also located very close to the A3, the M3 and the M4, so there is a genuine opportunity to get around using Twickenham as your base.

Properties in Twickenham range from large detached Victorian properties; to imposing Victorian gothic houses in Riverdale Gardens; to tall semi-detached Victorian villas in Cambridge Park; to red brick Edwardian houses in Strawberry Hill to Twenties and Thirties semi-detached houses; to two- and three-bedroom Victorian cottages around Twickenham town centre and Twickenham. Some of the most desirable roads are considered to be around Cambridge Park; Cole Park Road; Waldegrave Gardens; Strawberry Hill Road; Stratford Road; and Lebanon Road, an enclave of semi-detached Victorian houses close to Orleans Park. Other sought after locations can be found around Twickenham Green, particularly the Victorian cottages tucked away off of Colne Road and around Shaftesbury Way which is a development of well-designed 1960s townhouses close to Waldegrave school, the sought after girls' comprehensive.
