Welcome to Worcester Park
Named after the 4th Earl of Worcester, who was appointed keeper of the Great Park during Henry VIII's reign as king, Worcester Park can be found in the South West of London, on the border with Surrey. In 1809 the area was acquired by William Taylor who used the area for the manufacture of Gun Powder which continued until the 1850's when the mill blew up. Beverly Brook is the main river which runs through Worcester Park, alongside Green Lane and past Green Lane Primary School, running from its source in Cuddington Recreation Ground to where it finally ends when it joins the Thames at Barn Elms, almost opposite Fulham Football Clubs training ground at Motspur Park. Despite being on the edge of Greater London, Worcester Park has a varied environment of gardens and parks with the valuable addition of lakes and wetland in Mayflower Park.
Located in London Travelcard Zone 4, Worcester Park Railway Station provides regular services for the commuter in and out of London Waterloo, via Wimbledon Station. Worcester Park provides a good number of local bus routes running throughout the local area, South West London and Surrey. The motorist is connected by the nearby A3 Kingston bypass providing routes to London's West End, Surrey and the M25 for routes out of London.
Worcester Park is mostly made up of period properties (both large houses and smaller cottages) as well as a high number of 1930's semi-detached homes and some newer flats and developments. The popular Hamptons development, built by St. James as its flagship housing development in suburban South West London was planned to create a new neighbourhood based around the 15 hectare Mayflower Park. Built in a distinctive New England style, the architecture and park have been sensitively and thoughtfully designed. The adjacent parkland has proved popular for residents and the wider existing community and includes an amphitheatre, jogging and cycling trails and play areas together with a series of lakes and wetland which have enriched biodiversity as well as providing an education resource. The Worcester Park area is a hidden gem in South West London, offering residential houses and flats in beautiful parkland and tree lined street. The ease of access to central London makes Worcester Park an ideal location for commuters and families alike.
