Welcome to Chiswick

Located on the banks of a looping section of the River Thames, Chiswick has become a desirable suburb of West London. Chiswick hosts a plethora of vibrant local restaurants, coffee shops and shopping boutiques on its famously long Chiswick High Road which runs from nearby Hammersmith to the Chiswick Roundabout.

Chiswick is made up of sub localities that include Grove Park, Strand-on-the-Green, Gunnersbury, Chiswick Park, the Glebe Estate, Turnham Green and Bedford Park.

Historically, Chiswick grew up as a village, part of the ancient parish of St Nicholas, as a popular country retreat until the late 19th and early 20th century when the population expanded due to the suburban growth of London. The area is home to Chiswick House and Grounds, a neo-Palladian villa regarded as one of the finest in England; Hogarth's House, the former residence of artist William Hogarth; and Fullers Brewery, London's oldest and largest brewery.

There are a variety of transport links available for both the motorist and commuter alike. Chiswick boasts 3 London Underground stations served by the District Line including Turnham Green, Chiswick Park and Gunnersbury. Chiswick Railway Station, located in the Grove Park area provides regular services to and from London Waterloo, whilst Gunnersbury Station provides access to London Overground services. Bus routes provide 24 hour service on some routes including the 27 and 94 and other routes during normal times include 27, 65, 267, 391, 237, N9, 94 and the E3.

Family homes are Chiswick's major draw, with Bedford Park the prime location. London's first garden suburb, Bedford Park is noted for its substantial Victorian houses in the Arts & Crafts and style, many designed by the leading architect Richard Norman Shaw. Also popular is Grove Park, closer to the River Thames and offering more space and greenery. Property here mainly comprises four- to six-bedroom family houses in a mixture of period styles, principally Edwardian, 1930s and modern. Chiswick Riverside is highly coveted for its fine array of Georgian, Regency and Victorian properties, all commanding breathtaking views of the Thames. A mixture of smaller, cottage-style properties and Victorian townhouses are to be found on the Glebe Estate (a grid of streets south of Chiswick High Road) and the streets between Acton Lane and Bollo Lane. For the young professional there are a range of period mansion blocks which have been restored over the years or modern blocks such as Chiswick Green Studios which offer a range of inclusive amenities.
