Welcome to Hanworth

Located on the north of the River Thames, Hanworth is located in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. This is a suburban area of great history and tradition, but it remains a thriving local community with a village feel. As you would expect from a village area close to the Thames, there is a great sense of style and grandeur to Hanworth at times. The riverside has many residential islands while there is an array of stylish and highly decorative buildings. With a heated open air pool and a proximity to parkland Bushy Park, the second largest of the parks in London, Hanworth is an area of great beauty where it is possible to relax and enjoy the finer things in life.

There are a number of educational options in Hanworth with notable names include Hanworth Academy, Hanworth School, Lady Elanor Holles School, which is an independent school for girls, Hanworth Court House, Hanworth Junior School and Hanworth Infant and Nursery School. The wide range of highly regarded educational institutions in the local area ensures that there are plenty of options for parents looking to find a good school for their children and it also ensures that Hanworth welcomes a lot of parents and youngsters on a daily basis from other parts of the wider community. Similarly, there is a wide range of churches in the local area and the Christian Churches have formed a group entitled Churches Together Around Hanworth. While many of the churches in this part of the country are revered for their style, the collective strength created by all of the different elements of Christian faith working together has helped foster a strong sense of community between the varied local parishes.

When it comes to sporting activities, Hanworth is associated with sailing, with the local sailing club being found at Molesey Lock. Hanworth has its own heated open air swimming pool which remains open throughout the year and provides entertainment throughout the year with there renowned music festivals. There is a local non-league football team, who play at the Beveree Stadium, which is located on Station Road.

With respect to community entertainment in Hanworth, one of the biggest draws is the free Shakespeare exhibition which runs on Sunday afternoons from late April to October. This runs for three hours every week at Garrick's Temple and it provides a range of drama, exhibitions and music for attendees to enjoy.

Notable people who have lived in Hanworth or who are readily associated with the area include Alan Turing, the renowned computer engineer code breaker who played such a strong role in winning WWII. Turing lived in Hanworth 1945 and 1947. Other notable people associated with the area include Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour, actress Hayley Mills, Queen guitarist Brian May and the world-famous architect Christopher Wren.

With one main railway station in Hanworth and additional stations nearby in Fulwell and Feltham, this is an area that is great to stay in but also easy to commute to and from in the greater London area. Hanworth Station itself connects to London Waterloo, ensuring local residents can be in the heart of the city in no time at all. The area benefits from excellent bus services via routes 111, R70 and the R68 serving residents easy access to the nearby Kingston, Richmond and Heathrow Airport. As Hanworth is found at the western area of London, it is an ideal place for reaching the heart of the capital but also the surrounding counties. The M3 and M4 corridors provide easy travel in and around the greater community but there are many employment opportunities in the local area.

Hanworth offers a wide range of homes, from period cottages to Georgian houses; Victorian terraces, semi-detached and detached houses, and houses and flats from the Twenties onwards. At Taggs Island, in the River Thames close to Hanworth, there are houseboats ranging from the ramshackle to the glamorous. Whilst the Thames Close area offers a range of modern riverside apartments located in a gated community. The area known as "The Ormond's" boasts some of Hanworth's most desirable streets, with its large family homes. Other desirable areas include the roads around Wensleydale Road and Gloucester Road as well as roads around Percy Road, Nightingale Road, Courtlands Avenue, Acacia Road and the Countryside Development remain popular for families and young professionals.
