Welcome to Kingston upon Thames

An ancient market town where Saxon Kings were crowned, Kingston upon Thames, known as Kingston, is the principle town in the Royal borough of Kingston upon Thames. Located on the banks of the River Thames in South West London, Kingston was the earliest royal borough, thanks to it having belonged to Saxon King's and in the tenth century, several kings were crowned in Kingston. The original Coronation Stone, recovered from the ruins of the Church of St Mary, can be found today in the grounds of the Guildhall.

Central Kingston is a bustling city centre with vibrant shopping facilities including familiar High Street chains and more select boutiques. There a selection of department stores and a main shopping centre providing access to a variety of well-known high street brands. Kingston provides a diverse range of entertainment from its Rose Theatre, Multiplex Cinema and amusement complex, thriving nightlife to its quaint riverside cafes and walks.

Unusual sights in Kingston include "Out of Order" by David Mach, a sculpture in the form of twelve discussed red telephone boxes that have been leaned up against one another in an arrangement to resemble fallen dominoes.

Kingston Railway Station is located close to the main shopping centre and provides services across the South West of London and Surrey, whilst nearby Norbiton railway Station provides services for residents living in the areas surrounding Richmond Park, Kingston Hill and Kingston Hospital. Kingston's main shopping centre lends itself to a plethora of services which run throughout the day and night to and from the West End of London and the surrounding communities. For the motorist, the nearby A3 connects Kingston with South West London, Surrey and the surrounding areas.

Property in Kingston provides a mix of mainly Victorian and interwar houses and modern riverside flats. The most expensive homes are on the Coombe estate between Kingston Hill and Coombe Lane West. North Kingston is another favoured area, with attractive streets of three- and four-bedroom Victorian semis, and detached Victorian villas. The Thirties mock Tudor houses in the "Henry VIII" roads, with names such as Cardinal Avenue and Wolsey Drive, are also sought after. Semi-detached two- and three-bedroom Victorian houses with side entrances characterise the area south of the town centre.
