Welcome to Mortlake

Mortlake is a pretty village district of the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames on the south bank of the River Thames between Kew and Barnes. Historically it was part of Surrey and until 1965 was in the Municipal Borough of Barnes. For many centuries it had village status and extended far to the south, to include East Sheen and part of what is now Richmond Park. Its Stuart and Georgian history was economically one of malting, brewing, farming, watermen and a great tapestry works. A London landmark, the former Mortlake Brewery or Stag Brewery, is on the edge of Mortlake.

The building next to Mortlake Railway Station, now occupied by a classic car showroom, contains Queen Victoria's old waiting room which was built for her and Prince Albert to use due to their frequent visits to White Lodge in Richmond Park where their family and latterly their son the Prince of Wales (Edward VII) were living. Mortlake Railway station in more recent times has become a great commuter link with trains between London Waterloo and out of London. For the motorist, the nearby A316 provides simple access in to London and out to the M3 and M25.

Whilst the area is famed for being the end of the Oxford to Cambridge boat race each year, this picturesque village suburb of London is a very family orientated area with its array of popular schools on the area and properties to match. There is a real sense of community in and around this pretty riverside town and boasts a range of local boutique shops, cafes and bars for socialising.

  • " I first met Jezzards when I was looking for a new agent to take over the sale of my property, having used one of those online agents before and had no joy. After only 2 weeks on the market I had an offer for my property. I had previously been on the market for nearly a year with no offers so I was very pleased with their service from start to finish. I also would like to thank them for letting me keep my virtual tour of my (old) house so I would always have a memory of our first family home. "

    Paul White, Chiswick June 2018
  • " I was looking for a property to rent with my family and was moving to the Kingston area from North London, not knowing the area, Sam was a great help with showing me properties to taking me round the area when out with him and showing me the local schools. "
