Christmas activities in South West London and Surrey

  20 Nov 2017

If you are looking to have the best Christmas, it makes sense to prepare and plan ahead. No matter what you enjoy at the festive period, there are more than enough options to enjoy in your local area. If you need a helping hand in finding something to do or you want to get ahead of the crowd in booking tickets, here are some of the best Christmas activities in South West London and Surrey for 2017.

For many people, the festive season begins with the switching on of Christmas lights. Camberley gets things started early on Saturday the 18th of November while Godalming follows on Saturday the 25th of November. In Reigate, the Christmas lights switch on occurs on Saturday the 2nd of December while in Dorking, the big Christmas Gala Night is scheduled for Thursday the 7th of December.

There are plenty of great pantomimes to choose from

While pantomimes may not be for everyone, there is something to be said for some all-round family fun at this time of year. This is why it is good to know what pantos are on offer in South West London and Surrey this year, and there should be something that is of interest to you.

Dick Whittington at Yvonne Arnaud Theatre in Guildford

Running from the 8th of December to the 7th of January, this popular panto tale sees some familiar faces heading to Guildford while you can enjoy a festive rags to riches story.

Aladdin at Richmond Theatre

While the full cast is still to be announced, there will be many people keen to attend this event thanks to the inclusion of Christopher Biggins. In recent years, Biggins has become synonymous with pantomimes in the UK and of course, Aladdin is a tale that most people will know and love, whether it is from the traditional story or the Disney version.

Robin Hood at New Victoria Theatre in Woking

This may not be one of the most commonly used pantomime stories but with Shane Richie starring as Robin Hood, there will be a very familiar face for the audience to focus on. The story of Robin Hood, who robbed from the rich to give to the poor, is a very popular one and at this time of year, it is exactly the sort of story that should go down rather well.

Sleeping Beauty at Theatre Royal in Windsor

When it comes to reasons to check out a pantomime they don’t come much bigger or better than Basil Brush, so if you are looking for a lot of corny jokes and great fun, the Theatre Royal in Windsor is likely to be a fantastic option for Christmas activities in 2017.

There are plenty of Christmas Carol events to look forward to

It may be that you would rather have a singsong with traditional songs and if this is the case, you will find that the range of Christmas Carol concerts in Surrey and West London will be of interest to you.

On December the 18th, Stag Hill in Guildford is the setting for a traditional service where all are welcome to join in. This is a free event that begins at 6pm. There is always  a lot to enjoy about Hampton Court Palace and there is a range of carol services from the middle of December all the way into the New Year, with these events taking place at 6pm and 8pm. Having the chance to view the courtyards is often all the incentive people need to take part in this event but you can also sing along with some of your favourite festive tunes.

If you love animals, it may be that the special carol concert supporting the Battersea Dogs and Cats Home, taking place in Priest hill in Old Windsor on the 5th of December will be of interest to you. As this is a charity event, there is an entry cost but many people will find that the canine guard of honour as they enter, and free mulled wine and mince pies will more than enough justification to support a great cause.

  • " I've dealt with some horrible agencies whilst renting in the past but I am glad we had Jezzards as our last. Didn't know that someone so professional and understanding and true to it's word existed in the business. I locked myself out once and they were there in  20 mins to assist. Heating stopped in the night and their out of hours assistance helped sort us out. Any problems or issues, were very promptly and effectively dealt with...I didn't even have to chase them. Our exit was quick, refunds took some time due to overlooked issues, which Victoria Jezzard looked into personally, and all done in 3 days. Dorathy was our handler and she was ace!! "
