Fresh Start In January? Declutter Your Home

  24 Jan 2019

January is the ideal time of year for a fresh start and a new beginning. Even if you aren’t keen on making New Year’s Resolutions, you should find that the first month of the year is the ideal time to make some changes. If you aren’t planning on moving home this year, January is still a month where you can create a fresh style, helping you to fall in love with your home all over again.

However, if you are planning on selling your home this year, January provides you with the ideal opportunity to make changes that will help you to sell your home. At Jezzards, we are proud to say we have helped many vendors sell their home, and we look forward to assisting you. We believe there are some key steps you can take in January to freshen up your home and the process begins with decluttering.

Decluttering creates space and makes your home more attractive

While each individual buyer has their own requirements when looking for a home, it is fair to say that in general, buyers are looking for space. The more space you can create in and around your home, the more popular your home is going to be with buyers.

If you had a Christmas tree and decorations up over the festive period, it is likely your home looks and feels bare now. You should capitalise on this feeling by removing items that you don’t need.

There is also a strong argument that decluttering should include personal items. If you are looking to sell your home, you want to provide prospective buyers with a blank template. A buyer is unlikely to imagine themselves living in the home if you have many photos and mementos up, reminding people that this is your home.

Remember that January is the perfect time for a fresh start and decluttering your home is the ideal way to make it more attractive to buyers.

Ensure your home offers a warm welcome

In summer, some of the biggest problems in a home are covered or masked by better weather. In winter, when the temperature is low and the weather outside is challenging, you don’t have the same benefit. Therefore, in winter, take the time to check the condition of your window and door frames.

You want to ensure your home is well insulated, retains heat and prevents cold air from coming into your property. If you have the time or money, you should also consider cavity wall insulation. If prospective buyers enter your home and it feels cold, damp or miserable, they will not maintain an interest in your property.

Ensure the outside of your home is in great condition

If you are looking for fresh air and exercise in January, spend some time in your garden. Make sure the outside of your home creates a positive first impression on buyers. One tip is to ensure that your gutter is in good condition.  A blocked gutter can cause serious damage to your home, but it can also make your home appear unsightly.

January can be a challenging month, but if you want to reap rewards throughout the year, it is imperative you get off to a flying start. Therefore, make sure that you take steps to prepare your home for a sale. What our clients say about us

  • " Rated high with very good reason. Great customer service, pricing thoroughly researched for both buyer and same, no hard sale, professionalism from all members of staff exceptionally high, as was the photographer who took photographs of my property. I felt I could trust them, Victoria listened to personal concerns and was able to assuage fears drawing on years of personal experience. Quick to respond to queries on different communication platforms. They are a team to be strongly recommended. Sales team are extremely respectful, and were keen to find out as much about my property as they could. "

  • " I've dealt with some horrible agencies whilst renting in the past but I am glad we had Jezzards as our last. Didn't know that someone so professional and understanding and true to it's word existed in the business. I locked myself out once and they were there in  20 mins to assist. Heating stopped in the night and their out of hours assistance helped sort us out. Any problems or issues, were very promptly and effectively dealt with...I didn't even have to chase them. Our exit was quick, refunds took some time due to overlooked issues, which Victoria Jezzard looked into personally, and all done in 3 days. Dorathy was our handler and she was ace!! "
