Security Tips For Your Home This Summer

  27 Jun 2018

The summer of 2018 looks like being a busy and exciting one. If you are getting away from home this summer, hopefully you have a wonderful time. With a bit of luck, we’ll have some pleasant weather here this summer, but a summer vacation is about more than chasing the sun. This is an ideal break to relax and recharge your batteries for the rest of the year. A summer holiday is the ideal time to forget everything and reduce stress, which is why you don’t want to be worrying about your home when you are away.

Sadly, many people suffer a break-in at their property when they are on holiday. At Jezzards, we care about your property and we want to ensure that it remains in fantastic condition, even when you are away. Therefore, we are happy to share these security tips for your home this summer.

Your doors and windows may provide burglars with an invitation to enter your home

It makes sense to think about home security in a logical manner, reports indicate that the most common entry points during a break-in are the doors and windows. You should therefore focus on these areas of your home. Review your doors and windows to ensure that they are in fantastic condition and don’t offer easy access. If you are concerned about these entry points, adding more locks offers a secure solution that shouldn’t be too expensive.

It is also important to consider aspects that you may take for granted when you are home. While it is not recommended, it is a fact of life that many people keep a spare key hidden away somewhere around the garden or close to the front door. If you are going away this summer, make sure that keys are stored inside your home or given to someone to look after for you when you are away.

In fact, if there is someone close to your home, such as a neighbour, a friend or a family member who can pop into your home during your absence, you should do so. If you can create the impression that someone is at home, you are likely to minimise the likelihood of being broken into.

Invest time and money into making your home more secure

A thoughtful home security tip that creates the impression that someone is at home is investing in time switches or gadgets that turn lights on when light starts to fade outside your home. These are very simple gadgets, but they have a massive difference when it comes to creating the impression that someone is at home in your house.

Anther home security tip to consider for summer is to limit what you post on social media. If you post beach or poolside pictures every day, you will make your friends jealous, but you also may alert people to the fact that you are away from home. Be sure to review the security settings of your social media accounts because platforms like Facebook, Twitter or Instagram may not be as secure or as private as you think.

Also, if you still get milk or newspapers delivered to your door, be sure to put these orders on pause. Nothing says the property owner isn’t at home like a collection of milk cartons or newspapers at your front door.

Hopefully you have a fantastic summer, but it is best to secure your home, no matter if you are going away or not. At Jezzards, we are always happy to provide you with tips and guidance when it comes to keeping your home safe and secure. You can contact your local branch directly or speak to our team 24 hours a day, 7 days a week on 03330 433 633.

What our clients say about us

  • " I've dealt with some horrible agencies whilst renting in the past but I am glad we had Jezzards as our last. Didn't know that someone so professional and understanding and true to it's word existed in the business. I locked myself out once and they were there in  20 mins to assist. Heating stopped in the night and their out of hours assistance helped sort us out. Any problems or issues, were very promptly and effectively dealt with...I didn't even have to chase them. Our exit was quick, refunds took some time due to overlooked issues, which Victoria Jezzard looked into personally, and all done in 3 days. Dorathy was our handler and she was ace!! "
