How can your garden help sell your home?

  05 Jun 2015

When it comes to selling your home, you may think that it is all about the house itself. If you can present your home in a good fashion and offer plenty of space, you would think that there will be a number of interested buyers if the property is priced properly. However, it may be that some people have decided against buying your home before they have even entered your property, and this is where the condition and nature of your garden can have a massive impact on selling your home.

We all know that first impressions count for a lot, even in something as important as buying a property. If you come up to a home and the garden is messy or in poor condition, it will cause you to wonder about the rest of the home. If a home owner cannot spare the time or effort to care for their garden, have they spared the time or effort to care for their home? If a potential buyer has this mind-set before they even step into your home, it is going to make selling a home to them quite difficult.

A great looking garden creates the best possible impression

This is why ensuring your garden is in great condition is a tremendous starting point when trying to sell your home. Even if you don’t have great gardening skills, you can carry out simple tasks or even bring in a professional to help you out. You should make sure that the basics like having a clean garden, that fences and walls are intact and that the lawn is mown are all in place. If you have these elements in place, you’ll find that your garden will look relatively attractive and it certainly won’t cause any negative issues with your potential buyers.

You should also think about how you are likely to sell your garden to. If you are selling to a family, you want to create an open space where children can play. If you are selling to young professionals, they may be more interested in having a BBQ or decking area where they can socialise with their friends. If you are looking to sell to the elderly, having smaller areas where they can grow flowers and tend to the garden without being overwhelmed may be of benefit. Certain gardens are more attractive to certain property buyers and this is where thinking about who is more likely to buy your home can help you to create a garden than will appeal to the potential buyer you have in mind.

Like inside of your home, creating a sense of space is important in your garden, which means that you should be looking to de-clutter your garden as much as possible. Even if you have toys or sporting equipment in the garden, removing it for the viewing process will help as this will create a sense of space which potential buyers will be able to think of for their own needs.

  • " Rated high with very good reason. Great customer service, pricing thoroughly researched for both buyer and same, no hard sale, professionalism from all members of staff exceptionally high, as was the photographer who took photographs of my property. I felt I could trust them, Victoria listened to personal concerns and was able to assuage fears drawing on years of personal experience. Quick to respond to queries on different communication platforms. They are a team to be strongly recommended. Sales team are extremely respectful, and were keen to find out as much about my property as they could. "

  • " I've dealt with some horrible agencies whilst renting in the past but I am glad we had Jezzards as our last. Didn't know that someone so professional and understanding and true to it's word existed in the business. I locked myself out once and they were there in  20 mins to assist. Heating stopped in the night and their out of hours assistance helped sort us out. Any problems or issues, were very promptly and effectively dealt with...I didn't even have to chase them. Our exit was quick, refunds took some time due to overlooked issues, which Victoria Jezzard looked into personally, and all done in 3 days. Dorathy was our handler and she was ace!! "

We were provided with maps and advised on the layout of the town and nearby areas. We would particularly like to thank Gaj Murali for showing us round various properties in the pouring rain and taking a personal interest in helping us find the right property. Thank you Gaj. "
