Winter is the new spring for selling your home

  20 Oct 2015

When it comes to selling your home, there are certain times of the year that appear to be more popular than others. While property sales can, and indeed do, take place all year round, there has been a focus on spring and autumn for many professionals. The spring market has been based on acting when the year starts to bloom and to have the sale wrapped up before the summer period. The autumn market has been based on taking action after the summer lull and having the sale wrapped up before the festive period.

You can see the logic behind the reasons why these periods are important in the property market but justification can be made for selling during winter and summer too. We all know that people are different with their own circumstances and preferences in life. This means that while some people may prefer to be settled in a new home for the summer or winter months, there will be other people who would prefer to be settled in for the spring or autumn periods.

There is an argument that winter is the new spring for selling your home and here are some of the reasons why this is the case:

People Still Need To Buy

The bottom line is that even during winter, people still need to buy and sell property. This is an all year round situation. All of which means that winter is just as valid a time of year for selling a home, so don’t feel as though you have to take your property off the market.

This Is A More Suitable Time Of Year For People

There will actually be buyers who prefer to buy in the summer. Due to seasonal work, some people may have more free time or availability during the winter months, and this means that buying a home at this time of year is suitable for them. Researching properties, viewing homes and then taking care of paperwork can all impose on a person’s time so it can make sense to look for a home when you have more spare time, and for some people, this will be during the winter months.

Seeing A Home In Winter Is Important For Some Buyers

When it comes to making a positive impression when selling a home, you can see why spring can help. If your garden is starting to bloom and your home feels fresh, it can be very welcoming to a potential buyer, helping them to appreciate what your home provides. However, an increasing number of buyers are savvy to the tricks and steps that a seller can use. Some buyers will have an interest in visiting a home during the winter months. This will provide them with a chance to feel what the heating is like, how the home and local area look in the dark and it can allow them to get a better feel for the home. As a homeowner looking to sell, you’ll need to work hard to make sure your home impresses buyers in the winter months but you’ll find that potential buyers will be more trusting of what is shown to them.

People May Be Motivated For A New Year

It may be that the Christmas and New Year period was the deciding factor in someone wanting to move home. In this regard, they’ll start looking during the winter months, and this means that there will be motivated and interested buyers during this time of the year.

What our clients say about us

  • " I've dealt with some horrible agencies whilst renting in the past but I am glad we had Jezzards as our last. Didn't know that someone so professional and understanding and true to it's word existed in the business. I locked myself out once and they were there in  20 mins to assist. Heating stopped in the night and their out of hours assistance helped sort us out. Any problems or issues, were very promptly and effectively dealt with...I didn't even have to chase them. Our exit was quick, refunds took some time due to overlooked issues, which Victoria Jezzard looked into personally, and all done in 3 days. Dorathy was our handler and she was ace!! "
